FAQs
What is Culture Volunteer North Staffordshire?
Culture Volunteer is a project that brings together volunteers with opportunities within the arts and culture industries across Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire.
What type of volunteering opportunities do you offer?
We specialise in micro volunteering opportunities. These are usually short, one off opportunities completed in one day. Volunteering opportunities with us can vary from volunteering at large events and festivals to supporting small workshops and arts venues. You get to decide what you want to do and when.
Do I need previous experience of volunteering in Arts and Culture?
You do not require any previous experience or knowledge to volunteer. We will provide you with all the tools and training you need.
How many hours do I need to volunteer?
There is no minimum or maximum amount of hours you are required to volunteer with us. This provides our volunteers with the flexibility to volunteer around other commitments they may have.
What type of events do you recruit volunteers for?
Previously our volunteers have volunteered at : Pride, Six Towns Carnival, Ford Green Hall events, The Big Feast, B-arts, Middleport Pottery, Etruria Canal Festival and more. Our opportunities can vary from month to month and year to year so you’re bound to find something that suits you.
I don’t drive. How will I get to the venue?
Culture Volunteer can assist you with any transport needs and costs. If you are unable to drive to the venue, we can provide you with a taxi or support you with navigating public transport.
Can I volunteer with my friends?
If the organisation is looking for multiple volunteers then we can make a request for this to happen.
I am a student. My schedule changes quite regularly. Can I still volunteer?
We distribute information on latest volunteering opportunities at least once a week via social media, email newsletter or text.
If you wish to volunteer at one of the opportunities you simply respond to the text with yes which will let us know you can commit to the event. We then get in contact with you with further information.
However if you cannot volunteer you do not need to respond. We know people are busy. You simply respond when you can volunteer with us.
I want to volunteer at a full-day event. Will I be fed and watered during the event?
Yes you will. If for any reason the organisation cannot provide food and beverages we ask our volunteers to keep all receipts so we can reimburse you (this also applies to travel costs that may be incurred in order for you to volunteer with us).
Do you offer training before volunteering?
Yes we offer volunteering training before you commence volunteering. Some organisations also offer additional training tailored to their event.
If I volunteer with you will you be able to provide me a reference in the future?
We keep a record of the hours you volunteer so in the event that a reference in needed we can be as accurate as possible in providing one for you.
I have additional requirements I need to discuss before volunteering
No problem. Please reach out to us and we can talk through all requirements you may have.
I am currently recovering from illness. No two days are the same. What happens if I sign up for an event but cannot volunteer on the day?
Life happens. We ask you contact us so we can notify the organisation for you. Then when you feel better get back in contact with us.
I have children. Can my children volunteer with me?
Please get in contact to discuss your needs. As we work with various organisations there is no quick answer to this.
Do you require a DBS?
Our volunteers are not left alone during volunteering so do not require a DBS check.
My child is looking for a work experience placement. Do you offer work experience?
We currently do not offer work experience placements. These usually require a set amount of hours and as we specialise in micro volunteering we often do not meet the criteria for this.
If I volunteer with you will this lead to paid work?
All skills accrued via volunteering are transferrable and boost your CV. Whilst volunteering if a job opportunity arises you are welcome to apply for it.
What type of skills can I get via volunteer work?
You will pick up various skills including teamwork, organisational skills, customer service skills and more. Skills acquired are transferrable into all industries.
